Kiesel Guitars Welcomes Johnny Hiland

johnny-hilandWidely-acclaimed country/blues/western/rock guitarist Johnny Hiland is the newest member of the Kiesel Guitars family of artists, and we’re excited to welcome him!

Based in Nashville, but originally from Maine, Johnny has shared the stage with some of the biggest artists performing today, including Joe Bonamassa, Sammy Hagar, Steve Vai, Ricky Skaggs, Toby Keith and Hank Williams III. He's also performed on numerous albums, with other artists as well as solo, and is widely considered one of the fastest guitarists playing today, especially in his distinctive "chicken-pickin'" style. Additionally, Johnny has released many instructional books and videos, some of which are available on his website.

Johnny plays a Kiesel Solo model S6H, in scarlet red on swamp ash with the Custom Shop's Raw Tone Finish. Watch the video below to see Johnny putting his Solo S6H through its paces and talking about its features, and check out this extended-length conversation video between Johnny and Jeff Kiesel.

Spec out your new Custom Shop Solo Series guitar, available in 6, 7 and 8 string versions, as well as multiscale models. Also, be sure to check out our Kiesel Guitars Facebook and Kiesel Guitars Instagram to see some amazing examples of all our USA Custom Shop guitars and basses, and keep up with everything that's going on at the Kiesel Guitars!

New Beryllium Pickups and Other New Pickup Options

New Kiesel Guitars Beryllium PickupsThe Kiesel Guitars USA Custom Shop is excited to announce our newest pickups, the Beryllium Series. Available in bridge & neck humbucker, as well as a single-coil version, these pickups are now standard equipment in all SH Series semi-hollow guitars, all CT and CS Series California Carved Top guitars, the AE185 and AE185-12 acoustic/electric guitars, and in the bridge position of the Frank Gambale Signature FG1 (alongside the FG1N neck pickup). They are available as a no-charge option on many other Kiesel models.

Passive Beryllium Series pickups were personally designed by Mark Kiesel, and use quality Alnico II magnets and vintage style windings to produce classic guitar tones, well-suited to any playing style. Physically, they look the same as Kiesel’s acclaimed Lithium Series pickups. Click on the video below to hear the amazing tone these new pickups produce.

Additionally, the Custom Shop has added some new pickup options. First up, you can now order different colored pickup poles, to match your hardware. Standard pickup poles are silver, and you can order black or gold poles on any Kiesel Lithium or Beryllium Series pickup, including replacement pickups.

We’ve also added metal pickup covers, also available with Lithium or Beryllium pickups, on standard scale 6 and 7 string guitars. These covers have the classic “exposed pole” look, for that vintage vibe, as well as for preserving the adjustability of the individual polepieces. Metal covers are also available on replacement pickups.

Fishman Modern FluenceLastly, we’ve added the Fishman Modern Fluence pickups as options on Kiesel Zeus and Osiris models. This pickup set includes an alnico neck pickup, ceramic bridge pickup, 3-way blade selector, and 25K Fishman pots with volume and push/pull for tone change. Fishman Fluence pickups have none of the hum, noise and inductance issues that some wire-wound pickups can have — revealing pure, uncorrupted and musical tone.

New Osiris Series Doubleneck Guitars

Kiesel Osiris Series Doubleneck GuitarsFor the first time in more than two decades, Kiesel Guitars is offering a production doubleneck!

On the heels of the debut of the new Osiris Series guitars and basses, which debuted at NAMM, the Custom Shop is excited to return to doublenecks, something Kiesel was well-known for from the 1950s through the final models of the mid-1990s. However, the new Osiris doublenecks are unlike any production model to come out of the Custom Shop. Most obviously, it’s a headless model. This significantly helps solve the one problem almost all doublenecks suffer from: being neck-heavy. By using a headless model, neck dive and that “shoulder-heavy” feeling are eliminated, making for a comfortable instrument that can be played for extended, fatigue-free sessions.

Next, the Osiris doublenecks can be ordered in any combination of guitar necks: 6, 7 or 8 sting standard; and 6, 7, or 8 string multiscale. So, you can order a 6-multiscale and 6-standard, an 8-multiscale and 7-standard, a 6-multiscale and 8-multiscale, and so on. You can have a multiscale neck on top or on bottom, or both; or have standard-scale necks on both. You can also add a Kiesel/Hipshot tremolo on a bottom, standard scale neck.

Of course, you can also choose from Kiesel’s complete selection of Custom Shop options, including exotic woods; finishes from standard solid colors to optional metallic or translucent finishes, even our new Crackle Finishes, fretwire and inlays, and more.

Because of the level of customization available, orders are only taken by calling out helpful phone sales staff at (858) 484-8277.

New Osiris Series Standard & Multiscale Headless Guitars and Basses

Kiesel Osiris Headless Guitars and BassesIn conjunction with the new Zeus Series headless guitars, Kiesel Guitars is proud to announce the Osiris Series bolt-neck headless models. Available in 6, 7 and 8 string standard and multiscale guitar models, as well as bass guitar models, the Osiris Series combine some of the most popular features of other Kiesel instruments, to create a completely new guitar that you’ll love to play.

The Osiris Series feature a double-cutaway beveled body. The top bevel not only looks great, but makes playing very comfortable. The body itself is similar in size to the Vader Series, but the new shape allows the tuners on the Kiesel/Hipshot bridge or Hipshot Solo saddles on the multiscale variants to be protected from accidental bumping, as they are recessed into the body, similar to the Chris Letchford Signature multiscale guitars.

Unlike the Holdsworth, Vader and Letchford headless models, the Zeus Series has a bolt-on Eastern hardrock maple neck. Many players prefer the tone and articulation of a bolt-on neck; the trade-off for this has always been a “clunky” neck heel, but like all Kiesel Guitars bolt-neck instruments, the Osiris has a minimal, sculpted neck heel that allows easy access high on the fingerboard. And as on all Kiesel Custom Shop instruments, a whole host of options can be selected for your new Osiris, including the Hipshot/Kiesel tremolo on the 6, 7 and 8 string standard scale guitar models, and our awesome new Crackle Finishes.

Kiesel Lithium humbuckers are standard on all Osiris guitar models. We also excited to offer black Fishman Modern Fluence pickups on all Osiris and Zeus guitar models, which include an alnico neck pickup, ceramic bridge pickup, 3-way blade selector, and 25K Fishman pots with volume and push/pull for tone change.

Osiris models are online and ready to order today. Order online, or call our helpful and friendly sales staff a call today at 858-484-8277 (858-GUITARS), and get your order in for a new Osiris Series instrument.

New Custom Shop Crackle Finishes

Kiesel Custom Shop Crackle FinishesThe Kiesel Guitars USA Custom Shop is excited to announce our newest and most unusual finish option, the Crackle Finish (option code CF).

Crackle Finish is a top coat applied over a base coat color, which creates a crackled appearance. The “crackle” itself is black, so the finish looks best over bright finishes, like Kiesel Racing Green or Orange, McLaren Yellow, Grabber Blue, etc. However, the finish can be applied over any Custom Shop finish, and can be used in conjunction with our exotic top woods and finishes. It will even work with our exclusive Color-Shift Finishes, for a look that’s out of this world. In addition, it can be used on any custom one-off finish, like the blue/green/yellow fade on the Zeus Z6 shown on the left. The only limit is your imagination!

Instruments with Crackle Finish must have a tung-oiled neck, and must have a clear gloss top coat – the finish won’t work with clear matte satin, tung-oil or Raw Tone topcoats.

Matching headstocks can also be ordered; just used the matching painted headstock code (PH) when ordering.

Crackle Finish will add about 2 weeks to the build time of any guitar or bass. Crackle Finish instruments are non-returnable.

New Zeus Series Standard & Multiscale Headless Guitars and Basses

Kiesel Zeus Series Guitars and BassesTo kick off 2018 the right way, Kiesel Guitars is proud to introduce our newest series of headless guitars and basses, the Zeus Series. Available in 6, 7 and 8 string standard and multiscale guitar models, as well as 4, 5 and 6 string bass models, the Zeus Series combine some of the most popular features of other Kiesel instruments, into one design.

The Zeus Series feature a beveled body, reminiscent of the SCB Series guitars. The top bevel not only looks great, but makes playing very comfortable. The body itself is similar in size to the Vader Series, but the new shape allows the tuners on the Kiesel/Hipshot bridge to be protected from accidental bumping, as they are recessed into the body.

Unlike the Holdsworth, Vader and Letchford headless models, the Zeus Series has a bolt-on Eastern hardrock maple neck. Many players prefer the tone and articulation of a bolt-on neck, especially on bass guitars; the trade-off for this has always been a “clunky” neck heel, but like all Kiesel Guitars bolt-neck instruments, the Zeus has a minimal, sculpted neck heel that allows easy access high on the fingerboard. As on all Kiesel Custom Shop instruments, a whole host of options can be selected for your new Zeus, including the Hipshot/Kiesel tremolo on the 6, 7 and 8 string standard scale guitar models.

Most Zeus models are online and ready to order today. The remaining ones will be added in the coming days. For those models, call our helpful and friendly sales staff a call today at 858-484-8277 (858-GUITARS), and get your order in for a new Zeus Series instrument!

Statement on Closure of Carvin Audio/Amplifiers

With the announcement that Carvin Audio and Amplifiers is ceasing operations effective Monday, October 9 2017, Kiesel Guitars wants to let our customers know that this in no way affects the continued operations at the Kiesel Guitars USA Custom Shop. Because Kiesel Guitars and Carvin Audio became separate entities in 2015, we are in no way impacted by the shuttering of Carvin Audio and Amplifiers. Kiesel Guitars is building more guitars and basses than ever before, and we’re already looking ahead to our 75th Anniversary in 2021. Kiesel Guitars continues going strong by significantly expanding our guitar and bass offerings, hiring additional personnel, offering world-wide direct sales, participating in Summer NAMM in addition to our long-running presence at Winter NAMM, and adding many new endorsers to the Kiesel Guitars family of artists. Additionally, we’ve recently converted our state-of-the-art Escondido facility to all solar power, and we continue to make dramatic improvements to our design, engineering and manufacturing processes so we can, and will, continue to offer the best made-in-the-USA guitars and basses at factory-direct pricing that is unequaled in the industry.

We’d like to express our sincere gratitude to our customers for their continued support, and we’d like to wish the staff of Carvin Audio and Amplifiers success in their future endeavors.

Mark Kiesel, President, Kiesel Guitars
Jeff Kiesel, Vice President, Kiesel Guitars

NOTE: No one at Kiesel Guitars has any info has to how long their liquidation sale will continue, or how this impacts things like warranty/service, etc. If you need help with Carvin Audio gear, your best bet would be to reach out to them via their Facebook page.

Below, Jeff Kiesel talks about the closure and the history of the company on Facebook Live:
