In response to numerous customer requests, Carvin is proud to introduce our latest California Carved Top models, the CT7 and CT74 seven-string guitars. The CT7 is designed specifically for the dynamic and tonal range of a seven string instrument. It features an alder body and maple set-neck, along with a stunning 4A flamed maple top, which can be finished in an assortment of deep triple-step colors. Other exotic top woods are available, including 4A quilted maple, flamed koa, and flamed spalted maple. To help showcase the beautiful top, the CT7 comes standard with our natural body binding effect which exposes the natural edge of its exotic wood top.
The CT74 shares the premium features of the CT7, with a plain maple top standard. It can be finished in any of the Custom Shop’s standard solid colors, optional translucent finishes or optional metallic solid colors. The finish is applied to the entire instrument, including the back.
Electronics on both models consist of a pair of Carvin premium A70 active humbuckers along with a single volume, single tone and 3-way pickup selector. Carvin’s active pickup and electronic combination must be heard to appreciate how well they compliment the tone of the instrument’s superior natural resonance. For those that prefer the simplicity of a passive pickup system, Carvin’s new optional D26 passive humbuckers can be ordered.

Jason Becker celebrated his 43rd birthday this past Sunday in his hometown of Richmond, California with family, friends and fans. Guitar Player magazine, Carvin staffers and local press were also in attendance. The celebration included two screenings of the award-winning documentary movie Jason Becker – Not Dead Yet. Both afternoon and evening screenings were sold to the venue’s capacity, with some people seated on the floor in the theater. After each screening Jason made himself available for Q & A. He graciously answered any and all questions – sometimes with fun sarcasm, displaying his wonderful personality and sense of humor. When asked “what new shred guitarists do you like?”, Jason jokingly answered “they all suck” but then gave credit to guitarists such as Guthrie Govan and Jeff Loomis. Despite his ongoing battle with ALS, Jason was upbeat and happy as he shared his birthday with his guests.
Jason brought along some guitars from his collection to display on the theater stage. Many fans drooled over his late 80’s era Carvin guitars as well as his new JB200C Tribute model. For his birthday, Carvin presented Jason with a JB200C made in the color scheme of his favorite NFL team, the San Francisco 49ers. The guitar body was painted in Metallic Candy Red and sported white pickups with black bezels and gold hardware. Of all the guitars on display, the crowd voted on which was the coolest by applauding. The loudest applause was for Jason’s newest Metallic Candy Red guitar.
In response to customer's requests, and due to the popularity of Jason's new Candy Red model, Carvin will now be offering the JB200SC Standard, which enables players and fans to order Jason’s Tribute Model without a Flame Maple top, allowing for solid and translucent colors from Carvin’s Custom Shop. Like the JB200C, a Floyd Rose tremolo with locking nut, flamed maple fingerboard with abalone dot inlays, pointed inline headstock, tung-oiled neck and active electronics are standard features. Chrome hardware is standard, and a wide assortment of standard solid finishes, optional translucent finishes and other options are available.

Carvin’s relationship with Jason Becker dates back to the late 1980s, and we’re excited to welcome this influential and inspirational guitarist back to the Carvin family.
In response to Jason’s legions of worldwide fans, we are proud to introduce the JB200C Jason Becker Tribute Guitar. The Custom Shop worked closely with Jason to replicate as closely as possible the Carvin DC200 that was one of his main instruments in the 80s and 90s. This new model is loaded with standard features, including a 4A flamed maple top and matching pointed inline headstock, original Floyd Rose tremolo with locking nut, flamed maple fingerboard with abalone dot inlays, tung-oiled hardrock maple neck, black hardware, M22SD & M22V pickups and active electronics. Jason’s original guitar was finished in Sapphire Blue, but you can choose from any of Carvin’s translucent flamed maple finishes, or upgrade your top wood to 4A quilted maple. You can also upgrade to Carvin’s Deep Triple Step finish, which adds an almost 3-dimensional depth to the figure of the wood. A signature Jason Becker truss rod cover adorns the headstock.
Jason continues to impact the music world, as well as inspire guitarists of all genres. A new documentary film, Jason Becker: Not Dead Yet, explores his rise as one of the most influential neo-classical metal guitarists of his time, and his battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Everyone at Carvin is very excited to be working with Jason again as he continues to inspire a new generation of guitarists.

Carvin is proud to receive a WIHO (“Wish I Had One”) Award from the staff at MusicPlayers.com for the CT624 24-Fret California Carved Top Guitar. Among many other things, they said:
“To say the Carvin CT624 played like a dream would almost be an understatement, as this guitar shipped with super-low action, and the Satin neck finish was light to the touch. Rock and metal players will love the speed of this neck (get a 14” radius for even sleeker shreddiness), while blues players will still find big string bends an easy thing thanks to the medium-jumbo frets.”
Thanks to everyone at MusicPlayers.com for the glowing review – you can read the entire article right here.
The staff of Vintage Guitar magazine reviewed Carvin’s SH550 Semi-Hollow Carved Top guitar in the new June 2012 issue, which will be available on newsstands in the coming weeks.
Among the comments from VG, they raved: “Plugged in with a full band, the SH550 shows its stuff; it cuts like nobody’s business, with big, bold lead tones. Dial up the gain and be prepared to rock – the SH550 can handle loads of overdrive and, again, will just jump through any mix. The S22 humbuckers are terrific and the coil-tap adds versatility.”
Try out the SH550 for yourself and see what Vintage Guitar and many players have learned – the SH550 combines amazing tone, jaw-dropping good looks, and Made in the USA engineering and craftsmanship along with affordable factory-direct pricing in a package that simply can’t be beat. You can build your SH550 exactly the way you want it, by choosing from an extensive list of premium body, neck, fingerboard and exotic top woods; finishes, inlays, fretwire, hardware, and much more.
Be sure to pick up the June 2012 issue of Vintage Guitar to read the complete review!
